Wooden Wick Candle Care
First Burn Is Most Important
- Always allow the wax to melt evenly across the top (edge to edge) during your first burn.
- This prevents tunnelling and sets the “memory” for your candle.
- Ideal burn time for the first light: 2–3 hours.
Wooden Wick Tips
- Keep the wick trimmed to 1/8" (about the height of a grain of rice) before each burn.
- If the flame is too high or flickering, gently trim the wick with a wick trimmer or pinch off the charred bits once cooled.
- Wooden wicks burn slower than cotton, so don’t worry if the flame seems smaller—it’s working as designed.
Safe & Clean Burning
- Always burn your candle on a heat-resistant surface, away from drafts and pets.
- Do not burn longer than 4 hours at a time.
- Stop using your candle once about ½ inch of wax remains at the bottom.
Troubleshooting
- Candle won’t stay lit? Wick may be too long or there’s too much char (black tip). Extinguish, trim to 1/8", and relight.
- Uneven melt pool? Let the candle burn a little longer (up to 4 hours) to allow wax to catch up. If your candle has tunnelled, wrap the lit candle with aluminum foil so that there is a little opening at the top and then light it until you see an edge-to-edge melting pool.
- Weak flame? Gently tip out any excess melted wax or trim the wick slightly shorter.
- Smoking or sooting? Wick is too long—trim it down before relighting.
Final Tip
Burning a candle is a ritual—slow, grounding, and intentional. With proper care, your Recreated Candle Co. candle will deliver hours of cozy crackle, clean fragrance, and unforgettable scent memories.
